Give your plants an easily absorbed source of magnesium and sulphur with Food Grade Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulphate). Highly water-soluble and easy to apply, Epsom Salts can be used throughout the garden to help maintain healthy plant growth, green foliage and productive garden beds.

Magnesium and sulphur are important plant nutrients that can become depleted in some soils, particularly sandy, heavily cultivated or frequently watered soils. Epsom Salts provide a convenient way to supplement these nutrients when your plants or soil require additional magnesium and sulphur.

Suitable for gardens, vegetable patches, fruiting plants, roses, citrus and lawns, they can be dissolved in water for soil application or used as a foliar spray.

Why Use Epsom Salts for Plants?

Epsom Salts contain magnesium and sulphate, two nutrients that perform important functions in plant growth.

Magnesium for healthy green growth
Magnesium is a central component of chlorophyll and plays an important role in photosynthesis. When plants are deficient in magnesium, symptoms can include yellowing between the veins of older leaves and reduced plant vigour.

Sulphur for plant development
Sulphur is involved in the formation of plant proteins, enzymes and amino acids and contributes to normal plant growth and development.

Because magnesium sulphate dissolves readily in water, these nutrients can be made available to plants relatively quickly when correctly applied.

Because Epsom Salts are highly water-soluble, magnesium and sulphate are made readily available to plant roots almost immediately after application — making it one of the quickest ways to correct a deficiency compared to slower-release soil amendments.

Garden Uses for Epsom Salts

Garden Beds & Vegetable Gardens
Use as a supplementary source of magnesium and sulphur for soils where these nutrients may be deficient.

Tomatoes, Capsicums & Fruiting Plants
Magnesium is important for chlorophyll production and healthy plant function. Epsom Salts can be used where additional magnesium is required.

Roses & Flowering Plants
Suitable for supplementing magnesium in roses and other ornamental plants where soil conditions or plant symptoms indicate a deficiency.

Citrus & Fruit Trees
Can provide additional magnesium and sulphur to fruit trees growing in magnesium-deficient soils.

Lawns
Epsom Salts can be applied as a soluble magnesium supplement to lawns where additional magnesium is required.

Foliar Application
Because Epsom Salts are highly soluble, they can also be mixed with water and applied to foliage for direct nutrient application.

How to Use Epsom Salts in the Garden

Soil Application
Mix approximately 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salts per litre of water and apply around the base of plants. Where appropriate, apply every 4–6 weeks during active growth.

Foliar Spray
Dissolve approximately 1 tablespoon in 4 litres of water and apply evenly to plant foliage.

Lawns
Dissolve in water and distribute evenly over the lawn using a watering can or suitable garden sprayer.

Avoid excessive application. Epsom Salts should be used as a magnesium and sulphur supplement rather than as a complete fertiliser. For best results, consider your existing soil conditions and the nutritional requirements of the plants being treated.
